About the Microgeneration Certification Scheme
MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) is a nationally recognised quality assurance scheme, supported by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS). It provides the framework for the certification of microgeneration technologies used to produce electricity and heat from low carbon sources.
- MCS are inspecting a sample of renewable energy installations across the UK to ensure that the quality and compliance of the installations and that they are in line with the regulations and standards required.
- MCS wants to gather feedback on your experience as a customer with regards to your renewable technology and ascertain if improvements can be made to the scheme.
- By taking part in the free inspection your low carbon technology will be independently assessed for compliance and quality.
- At the same time, the feedback gathered assists MCS in developing the standards for all future installations.
After you have filled out your details either online or using the pre-paid response card, if your installation is selected you will be contacted by one of our dedicated team to arrange a mutually convenient time for the inspection to take place.
The assessor will arrive at the pre-agreed date and time to inspect your installation, they will bring with them everything that they require but if you could have the following to hand it would assist us:
- Your contract with the MCS Contractor
- Any performance predictions that they gave you
- Any handover pack / documentation that they gave you once the job was complete.
Don’t worry if you can’t find the above as it will not stop the inspection going ahead but if you can it would help us to carry out the site inspection.
Yes you will need to be home, and we would never undertake an inspection without you being there.
We will arrange a suitable time for the inspection that works for you so that you won’t be inconvenienced in any way, if the inspector is running late for unforeseen reasons you would be contacted, and the visit rearranged or cancelled.
Each inspection on average is likely to last between 1-2 hours depending on the technology and the complexity of the installation, we will advise you of our expected duration when we book the site visit in.
Your MCS number is at the top of your MCS Certificate, however, if you are unsure of your MCS Certificate Number, please contact the MCS Helpdesk on +44 (0) 333 103 8130
We appreciate that you may have to rearrange your appointment, and if so please call us on
0845 533 3853 and we will do our best to rearrange it.
Please be aware though that the inspector may have to travel some distance to carry out the inspection, so try and give us as much notice as you can if you need to rearrange.
